Unfortunately casting definitely IS a pain and I recommend getting a Chromecast 3 or newer to plug into the TV's HDMI port. Some TVs will automatically wake up and change the input source to the Chromecast when you start casting. Check your settings for HDMI CEC or HDMI link or what they call it.
